In the ever-evolving world of Bollywood fame is always fleeting. One moment an actor is at the top captivating everyone with his or her impeccable performance; the next moment they are quietly fading. From fresh faces to superstars every actor faces such an experience. One actor who despite having major stardom also found himself being the victim of this unpredictable nature of fame. The actor that we are talking about is none other than the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. Big B himself revealed that at one point he ruled the silver screen with his iconic angry young man image. But at one point he witnessed a time when his dazzling fame began to dim a period when the spotlight had shifted to a new powerhouse of talent. Govind From Glory to Lull In the mid-1990s a fresh face was introduced in Bollywood. This actor was none other than Govinda. The new age entertainer quickly won hearts with his effortless humour and unmatched timing. During this time Amitabh Bachchan the reigning megastar of Indian cinema began to feel the change. The magic that once made him the nation’s biggest icon was no longer working the same way. During this time Govindas dominance was so strong that when Bachchan made his comeback it felt only fitting that he shared the screen with him in David Dhawan’s 1998 blockbuster Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Bachchan on Harsh Reality of Fame Earlier in an interview Amitabh Bachchan reflected on the shift in stardom and how fame can vanish overnight. He said “The whole equation changes. The crowd is not as attracted to you. People don’t look at you the same way they used to. You could enter a restaurant and cause mayhem. And then you can enter again and nobody looks at you. So you go through that phase.” Recalling his initial years in Bollywood when crowds used to gather during the promotion of his film he said “I went to promote a film in New York during that time. It was madness. You couldn’t get off the stage. They had to get the limousine underground to escape.” When Govinda’s Stardom Soared Bachchan has often spoken fondly of Govinda’s peak. He once said “I was shooting for Hum when a group of kids came up and asked me for an autograph. Govinda was standing next to me. A young girl slapped the boy and said ‘Woh nahin yeh. Govinda ka autograph lo.’” Amitabh revealed that this incident made him realise the massive fan following of Govinda. It was a humbling moment for a man who tasted major stardom. T
