Mumbai: On Tuesday morning, the nation was mourning his death. Exactly 24 hours later, iconic Bollywood star Dharmendra was back home from hospital. Things can’t get more filmi than this.
According to sources, the 89-year-old actor left the Breach Candy Hospital where he was admitted a few days ago around 7.30 am. His treatment will now continue at home.
“Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We kindly request the media and the public to refrain from any further speculation and to respect his and the family’s privacy during this time. We appreciate everyone’s love, prayers, and good wishes for his continued recovery, good health, and long life. Please respect him because he loves you,” a doctor from the hospital said in a statement.
There was a major gaffe on Tuesday morning after a section of the media published that Dharmendra had passed away. Condolences started pouring in, even from top leaders and Bollywood insiders. Among those who posted condolences were defence minister Rajnath Singh and lyricist, scriptwriter Javed Akhtar.
The veteran actor’s wife Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol reacted strongly to these reports, saying that Dharmendra was well on the way to recovery. Singh, Akhtar and others deleted their posts thereafter.
Dharmendra is known as the He-Man of Bollywood. His career spans over six decades during which he acted in more than 300 films. He made his debut in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere and went on to deliver unforgettable performances in classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, and Phool Aur Patthar. His effortless charm and versatility earned him immense love and respect across generations.
He also made his mark as a producer and entrepreneur. With a net worth of over Rs 335 crore, he owns a sprawling 100-acre farmhouse in Lonavala, luxury vehicles, and successful restaurant ventures including Garam Dharam Dhaba and He-Man on the Karnal Highway.
Dharmendra was last seen in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani and continues to inspire fans with his positive spirit and active presence on social media.
