In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood we often see the final picture but what happens behind the scenes is a lot more than what meets the eye. One such example of this is what happened on the sets of a film that starred Govinda and Dharmendra. The two have shared a close bond for decades and even worked together in multiple films. However there was once a moment of tension between them when reports claimed that Dharmendra slapped Govinda on a film set. Did Dharmendra slap Govinda? This incident goes back to the year 1990 during the making of film Aawargi. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Hema Malini the film initially starred Govinda and Meenakshi Seshadri in lead roles. It was Hema Malini who did the casting for this film. However the project took an unexpected turn when the script changed. The revised version included Anil Kapoor’s entry something that reportedly didn’t sit well with Govinda. Upset with the addition of another actor to the cast Govinda considered walking out of the film. His decision came as a shock to the production team who were already facing difficulties with scheduling. As per reports Hema Malini was really concerned by this and requested Dharmendra to intervene and speak to Govinda personally. The Confrontation on Set According to film reports Dharmendra called Govinda for a private meeting to sort things out. He apparently explained the situation patiently and urged the younger actor to reconsider his decision. But when repeated attempts failed to convince him Dharmendra reportedly lost his temper and slapped Govinda on set. While this story spread like wildfire Dharmendra later denied the claim of having hit Govinda. What is interesting is that during the same period reports suggested that Amrish Puri too had once slapped Govinda during a heated moment on set. further fueling tales of the actor’s professional clashes. Dharmendra and Govindas Strong Bond Despite that brief fallout Dharmendra and Govinda’s bond remained strong. In fact when Dharmendra was recently hospitalised at Breach Candy Hospital Govinda was among the first to visit him.
