Historic discount in electricity bill! Your life will change with the relief plan of 2025

Lucknow: The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has given a big gift to the electricity consumers. Under “Electricity Bill Relief Scheme 2025”, crores of people will get huge discount in outstanding electricity bills. Urban Development and Energy Minister Shri A.K. Sharma announced this plan in a press conference at Sangam Auditorium in Lucknow. Additional Chief Secretary Narendra Bhushan, Chairman Ashish Goyal and MD Pankaj Kumar were also present with him. This scheme will prove to be a boon for those consumers whose bills are outstanding for a long time or who have never been able to pay.

Bumper discount on lump sum payment

Mr. Sharma said that if a consumer pays his outstanding bill in lump sum, he will get 100% rebate in surcharge and up to 25% rebate in principal amount. This relaxation will be given in three phases. There will be a 25% discount on registration in the first phase (1 December 2025 to 31 December 2025), 20% discount in the second phase (1 January 2026 to 31 January 2026) and 15% discount in the third phase (1 February 2026 to 28 February 2026). The Minister appealed that consumers should avail maximum benefits by registering in the first phase itself.

Relief to domestic and commercial consumers

The scheme is applicable for both domestic consumers (up to 2 kW) and commercial consumers (up to 1 kW). Apart from this, exemption on revenue assessment amount will also be given in cases of electricity theft. This will also benefit those people who are stuck in disputes due to technical glitches or meter problems.

Facility to pay in installments

Keeping in mind the poor and middle class consumers, the government has also provided the facility of payment in monthly installments. With this, even those people who are unable to deposit the lump sum amount will be able to avail the benefits of the scheme. This step will relieve millions of small consumers from financial burden and make them self-reliant.

Solution of over and under billing

Sharma said that under the scheme the problems of over billing and under billing will also be rectified. With this, consumers will get the benefit of correct and transparent billing. He said, “This scheme is not just about giving discounts, but also a campaign to win the trust of consumers and bring transparency.”

Easy Registration Process

Registration for the scheme has been kept very easy. consumer department website www.upenergy.inYou can register at the block/sub-division office, public service center or any departmental cash counter. Mr. Sharma has instructed the officials that no one should face any problem in the registration process and all applications should be accepted on time.

Exemption in cases of electricity theft also

To get rebate on revenue assessment amount in cases of electricity theft, the consumer will have to register. For this, Rs 2000 or 10% of the assessment amount (whichever is higher) will have to be deposited. This provision has brought relief to those who were unknowingly caught in such disputes.

Government’s gift to the public

Shri Sharma said that this scheme has been made for the convenience of the public. “Our aim is that every consumer should get financial relief along with electricity. This scheme will further strengthen the public’s trust in the electricity department.” He described it as a symbol of the government’s transparent and sensitive thinking.

New chapter in energy system

This scheme will not only provide relief to consumers but will also strengthen the financial position of power distribution companies. This will reduce the outstanding amount, increase revenue and resources can be raised for new projects. Mr. Sharma said, “Our goal is – electricity for all, relief for all.”

Appeal to make the plan successful

The Minister told the officials that the scheme should be widely publicized so that every eligible consumer can avail its benefits. He instructed to run it like a public relations campaign and to continuously monitor it. Also appealed to the public to actively participate in this scheme.

Government’s priority: public interest

Shri Sharma stressed that this scheme is not just a decision to give relaxation, but a symbol of the government’s sensitivity towards the public. This will prove to be a milestone in the energy journey of Uttar Pradesh, which will reduce the burden on consumers and further strengthen the transparent policies of the government.
