While many of us experience problems and disputes with our neighbours at some point, one woman was left flabbergasted by the bizarre actions of someone living directly below her brother's flat. It left Evelyn Amsdell questioning the legality of the actions of her sibling's neighbour. "This cannot be legal?" she wrote in a caption alongside a TikTok video.

"If you think your downstairs neighbours are bad... imagine waking up to them drilling into your bedroom." Her short clip showed a lengthy drill bit emerging through her her brother's carpet, narrowly missing his electrical dehumidifier situated an inch to the right.

The video has since gone viral, racking up a staggering 11 million views and sparking a flurry of comments from baffled TikTok users. "What are they drilling for, oil?" one perplexed person questioned. Another asked: "Why are they still trying to drill further?".

A third took a more pragmatic approach, stating: "Maybe I'm an idiot but to be honest I would probably assume it was an accident. No need to call the police, maybe just try to talk to your neighbours or landlord? Stupid people aren't always malicious."

Elsewhere, a fourth TikTok user highlighted the potential danger, pointing out: "That's so dangerous, even if it was a mistake, a pet or person could have been there."

And fifth person suggested: "Looks like they're going for what ever is vibrating the s*** out of their place. But they missed. Please put some type of anti-vibration pad under your fans, dehumidifier or air purifier. You'll be surprised what it sounds like under them."

Evelyn subsequently returned to TikTok after receiving clarification about the situation. "Update on the drill in my brother's floor situation," she posted alongside another clip showing a letter fixed to the door. "Got notice they're [construction workers] coming into his unit to install the exhaust vent.

"They want the vent to go up through his ceiling and dry wall it in. Not to worry, his landlord assured him he won't have to pay for the damages!"

The notice stated that building work would occur over two days in November and would be carried out in the "common area hallways and to your individual unit". It added: "Construction to the property will be during day hours. We thank you for your patience during construction."

"Do not accept the vent," one viewer warned in response. "Move." Fortunately, Evelyn then revealed regarding her brother: "He is moving next month! Hopefully we can delay the construction until then."

Nevertheless, she also stated in reply to another TikTok user: "Now they're threatening to force entry so we're going to try that in the morning. Hoping they will help but everyone seems scared to since the owner owns half of the city."
