Android: Android users will get a new feature that will easily identify apps that consume more battery..

Our phones often experience issues where an app drains the phone's battery excessively. In such cases, we're often unable to determine whether it's a problem with the phone or another app within the phone. In this regard, Google will now automatically warn you if an app is draining your battery. Soon, a red warning badge will appear next to the name of such apps on the Google Play Store, indicating, "This app may drain battery quickly."

What's the new system?
Google and Samsung have jointly developed a new system that detects apps that run in the background and drain battery. A new update has now been added to Android's "Vitals" feature. It will track apps that remain active in the background for more than two hours in a 24-hour period (called "wake locks"). Some apps, such as those that play audio or transfer files, will be exempt from this rule because these apps run in the background with our knowledge and are granted permission by us. If at least 5% of an app's sessions exceed this limit in the last 28 days, Google will consider it a "battery-draining app."

What does this mean for users?
From March 1, 2026, Google will address such apps in two ways. First, such apps will be less visible on the Play Store, meaning they will be removed from Google's recommendations. Second, a red warning label will appear before downloading such apps, stating, "This app has high background activity and may drain your battery quickly." This will alert users in advance which apps are battery-hungry.

Why is this update necessary?
Many apps run in the background unannounced and drain battery quickly. Google wants developers to design their apps to consume less battery. This update will give users more control and transparency so they can install apps wisely.
