In a surprising yet powerful casting choice, Raveena Tandon has been roped in to play Heeraben Modi, the late mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the upcoming multilingual biopic Maa Vande.
The film, directed by Kranthi Kumar Ch and produced by Veer Reddy under the Silver Cast Creations banner, was officially announced on Modi’s birthday, September 17. Actor Unni Mukundan will essay the role of Narendra Modi, leading the project.
According to sources close to the production, Raveena was deeply moved by the strength and emotional depth of Heeraben’s character. “The story of a woman who lost her mother early in life, yet held her family together with calm, resilience, and fortitude, truly resonated with her,” the insider shared.
The film’s narrative focuses primarily on the relationship between Heeraben and her son, exploring how her sacrifices, guidance, and quiet determination shaped Modi’s journey. “Maa Vande is essentially a tribute to the spirit of motherhood — a story about love, faith, and perseverance,” the source added. Raveena was reportedly drawn to the film’s emotional core and its focus on the unsung influence of a mother behind one of India’s most powerful figures.

Before filming begins, Raveena will undergo a complete physical transformation to authentically portray Heeraben across different stages of her life. The film is said to be mounted on a grand scale, with advanced VFX technology being used to recreate significant periods of Modi’s early years and family life.
With its focus on the personal and emotional aspects of a public figure’s story, Maa Vande aims to explore an uncharted dimension of the biopic genre, one that highlights a mother’s pivotal role in shaping a leader’s destiny. Backed by strong performances and an ambitious vision, the film promises to blend heartfelt storytelling with cinematic grandeur, and Raveena Tandon’s portrayal is already being seen as one of the most anticipated performances of her career.
Interestingly, Raveena played the Prime Minister in her last pan-India release, KGF 2, opposite Yash.
