Sourav Ganguly has hinted at the possibility of stepping into a full-time role with the Delhi Capitals. The former Indian captain currently serves as the Director of Cricket for JSW Sports, which co-owns the franchise. He mentioned his more ceremonial and behind-the-scenes role during the last season, a situation stemming from the dual ownership structure of the team.
Ganguly also praised DC co-owner and chairperson Parth Jindal for his contributions and suggested that he might take on a more active role with the Capitals in the upcoming 19th season of the IPL.
The Delhi Capitals are co-owned by JSW Sports and the GMR Group, and the franchise operates in cycles that last two years. Following the departure of Ricky Ponting, DC's long-time coach, Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao have been appointed as head coach and director of cricket, respectively, as they prepare for IPL 2025.
Meanwhile, Ganguly has been actively engaged with DC's two subsidiary teams: the Women's Premier League unit (Delhi Capitals Women) and their SA20 team, the Pretoria Capitals.

Ganguly’s Deeper Role Could Usher a New Era for Delhi Capitals
Ganguly’s increasing involvement with the Delhi Capitals could signal an exciting new chapter for the franchise. With fresh leadership under Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao, DC is focused on rebuilding and finally capturing their first IPL title. Ganguly’s wealth of experience and long-standing ties to Indian cricket could provide the guidance and stability the team needs.
His deeper engagement might also strengthen the connection between DC’s main team and its subsidiary squads, including those in the WPL and SA20. As the IPL 2026 season draws near, the Delhi Capitals will be hoping that Ganguly’s presence helps them transform their potential into a championship victory.
