Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the American owners of Liverpool FC, have reportedly lost interest in buying a La Liga club. The investment group, who took over Liverpool from previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in October 2010, have led the Reds to two Premier League titles, one Champions League, three League Cups, one FA Cup and one Club World Cup title under their stewardship.

The group, headed by principal owner John W. Henry, were also responsible for appointing Jurgen Klopp as manager in 2015 and his successor, Arne Slot. Over the past few years, there have been whispers that FSG were keen to invest in another football club outside England, with Spain being identified as a potential destination. Getafe, a La Liga team, were rumoured to be on FSG's radar.

Last summer, reports surfaced that FSG were in discussions with Getafe's current ownership about a possible takeover. There were even suggestions of a deal worth more than £100million if an agreement could be reached, with Getafe said to be valued at around £160million.

However, according to Spanish news outlet Marca, FSG have now abandoned their plans to take over Getafe. It is claimed that FSG have two reasons for no longer pursuing a deal to acquire the club.

The report suggests that La Liga's salary cap rules have deterred FSG from purchasing Getafe, with the regulations reportedly hindering Liverpool's owners from investing as much as they'd like in a short period to bolster the squad.

It's also been reported that the average age of Getafe's current squad, which according to Transfermarkt is 28.2, doesn't align with FSG's vision.

FSG are believed to be seeking a club where they can nurture young talent to potentially sell for profit or use as a stepping stone before transferring to Liverpool.

It's been revealed that FSG are no longer pursuing a deal with Getafe club president Angel Torres, and it remains uncertain where the Liverpool owners will look next in their quest to acquire a new club.
