Liverpool's dream January transfer window - undroppable leaves, £100m ace joins as crisis solved

It's safe to say that Liverpool's title defence has been nothing short of a disaster so far. Arne Slot stunned the Premier League last season, winning Liverpool's 20th top-flight title in his first year in the job.

What followed was a star-studded transfer window with the Reds spending over £400 million featuring an influx of players coming and going.

However, reality has now set in. Liverpool currently sit eighth in the table, having lost five times in just 11 games. Slot is under pressure while many fans and pundits alike are wondering just what the fix actually is as the Dutchman grapples with his new-look squad.

While Liverpool may baulk at the concept of spending more more in January, speculation is rife that the club will act to try and salvage their season. Mirror Football takes a look at what a dream winter window could look like for the Reds.

In - Elliot Anderson

While Manchester United are said to be leading the race for the Nottingham Forest midfielder, Mirror Football revealed that Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are also keen on Anderson.

Liverpool have struggled in the engine room so far this season with Alexis Mac Allister grappling with his form, Dominik Szoboszlai shifted from the centre-midfield to right-back while Florian Wirtz has failed to make the number ten his own.

The ever-reliable Ryan Gravenberch has often looked isolated, meaning 23-year-old Anderson could be a fitting partner in the middle of the park for the Dutchman in order to bring some steel to Slot's flailing central unit.

However, reports suggest that Forest would demand in the region of £100m-£120m to even consider a sale. With Liverpool's expenditure already high this year the odds are small they would elect to bid.

In - Antoine Semenyo

Liverpool's sale of Luis Diaz looks already to be haunting them. While the Colombian reportedly wanted to leave Anfield, his exceptional numbers for new club Bayern Munich are showing what Liverpool are missing.

The Reds have been without a speedy winger all season, with Mo Salah struggling to make an impact. Slot's side have often looked penned in during games with no outlet from the flanks.

Bournemouth star Semenyo has six goals and three assists so far this season, including a brace at Anfield against Liverpool on the Premier League's opening weekend.

The Ghana international signed a new five-year contract with the Cherries in July, but reports state that there is a release clause inserted in the deal. While speculation is rife that Liverpool could move for the lightning-quick wide man in January, his acquisition would reportedly cost the Reds around £75m.

In - Alessandro Bastoni

Reports state that following the long-term injury to Giovanni Leoni and the potential departure of Ibrahima Konate next summer, Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defence ahead of the winter window.

The Reds have reportedly set their sights on Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, who is under contract until 2028. It is said that Liverpool are aware of his value and are preparing an offer of at least £88m.

Liverpool's failed pursuit of Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi has said to have prompted renewed interest in Bastoni, who has been hailed by Italian icon Giorgio Chiellini as "one of the best defenders" in world football.

In - Marc Guehi

The alternative to Bastoni is Palace captain Guehi. The Reds have already done the groundwork on the England defender and were mere moments away from landing him on transfer deadline day only for Palace to pull the plug at the eleventh hour.

While Slot could acquire the 25-year-old for free the Reds are now expected to face a challenge from a number of Premier League clubs and Spanish giants Real Madrid for Guehi's signature.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona are among the clubs to have been linked, while Guehi himself has said he's relaxed on his future.

Out - Ibrahima Konate

While the Reds are struggling at centre-back with the absence of Leoni and speculation rife over a departure for the long-serving Joe Gomez, the idea of letting Konate go feels like self sabotage. Konate has become somewhat undroppable in the face of Liverpool's defensive shortcomings, despite his worrying form.

It's no secret that the Frenchman has underwhelmed this season and his contract is up at the end of this season. Links to Real Madrid refuse to dampen, and if Liverpool can secure moves for Guehi and Bastoni then perhaps letting a player, who could have one eye on the Spanish capital, leave wouldn't be such a rogue move after all.

Konate has been a loyal servant at Anfield, turning in several eye-catching performances in last year's title-winning campaign. However, an accelerated January move would not only see the Reds bank a fee for the former RB Leipzig centre-half but also help them clear the decks of a player who could leave in the summer for free anyway.
