New Delhi. The Central Government has issued an important clarification regarding pension rules. The government has said that no pensioner or government employee needs to remove his daughter’s name from the family details. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare clearly stated that the daughter’s name should always be recorded in the family list, even if she is not eligible for family pension.

In recent times, a misconception had spread in many offices that if the daughter is married or for some reason is not eligible for family pension, then she should be removed from the family list. On this the department clarified that the process of removing names is against the rules. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare said in its order that as per Rule 50(15) every government employee has to give the names of all the family members during his service or at the time of retirement, whether they are eligible to get family pension or not.
This clarification will not apply to employees who have previously served in any civil or military service and are subsequently re-appointed, and for whom new pension or gratuity is not payable. The government says that the purpose of this step is to maintain transparency and clarity of records, so that any family dispute or administrative confusion can be avoided later. By registering the names of all the members in the family list, it will be ensured that in future no eligible member is deprived of his rights.
Eligibility will be decided later
The department also said that the pension eligibility of any member will be decided only after the demise of the pensioner. If at that time the daughter is found eligible as per the rules, she will get the benefit of family pension. If he is not eligible, pension will not be given even though the name is in the list, but the name will not be removed.
