Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming essential in the changing landscape of journalism today. AI tools are increasingly being used to increase news verification, speed of information retrieval and accuracy in digital operations. Against this backdrop, the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation has made a big announcement for journalists in Maharashtra. Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha informed that a special AI training workshop will be organized for journalists in every district of the state. This is the first initiative of its kind in the state, and journalists will get hands-on experience of modern digital tools.
At the same time, there has been a proposal to start a four-month diploma course in ‘AI for News’ at ‘Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills University’ and Minister Lodha also said that it will be positively considered.

Four-Day AI Training at Ministry: Great Response
AI training was organized from 11th to 14th November 2025 at the press room of the Ministry in association with Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skill University and Ministry and Legislature Correspondents Association. Many journalists from print, electronic and digital media participated in this workshop.
In the workshop, AI expert Kishore Jashnani guided on important topics like design of prompts required for journalism, alternatives to ChatGPT, how to create news/videos from photos, writing news reports, as well as using supporting tools like ChatPDF.
Decision to expand across the state
Due to the spontaneous response to this training, it has been decided to extend this activity to all the districts of the state. Journalists at rural and taluka level will also be given free training on modern AI tools.
Need for AI for Journalists: Minister Lodha
“In today’s digital era, journalists have a huge responsibility for speed of news along with accuracy. At such a time, AI is not just a technical tool, but a medium that gives a new edge to the work. The real aim of this initiative is to empower every journalist and raise people’s concerns more effectively,” said Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha.

In this training program Vice Chancellor Dr. Journalists from various media including Apoorva Palkar, Deputy Chancellor Rajendra Talware, President of Correspondents Association Dilip Sapate, General Secretary Deepak Bhatuse, Coach Lomesh Narkhede were present.
At the end of the event, certificates were distributed to all participating journalists. Journalists Deepak Kaitke, Sanjay Jog and Clara Lewis expressed their views on the workshop. The program was moderated by Deepak Bhatuse and coordinated by Khanduraj Gaikwad.
