In Ayurveda, Panchakarma is considered a natural way to deep cleanse and reset the body-mind. We usually pay more attention to the beauty on the outside, but the real glow comes when the body is clean and balanced from within. Panchakarma helps in this work.
Panchakarma removes waste, excess doshas and stress from the body and makes you feel light, fresh and energetic. It includes five main treatments – Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshana. Every treatment has its own specific purpose and should be done only after consulting an Ayurvedic expert.
First comes Vamana, which especially helps in reducing Kapha dosha. In this, by using special herbs the body expels phlegm and unwanted substances. Then there is Virechana, which is done to balance pitta disturbances. It provides relief from many problems to digestion and skin by removing bile-borne toxins from the body.
The third and most important treatment considered is habitation. It is also called half treatment in Ayurveda. In this, medicated oils or decoctions are given through the anus, which balances the Vata dosha and deeply nourishes the body.
The fourth treatment is Nasya, in which a few drops of medicated oil or ghee are put into the nose. It is known to have benefits to head, sinus and mental peace. The fifth treatment is Raktamokshana, in which a small amount of contaminated blood is removed from the body to purify the blood and improve the skin and circulation.
A special thing about Panchakarma is that it can be done not only when the disease occurs, but also before so that the body remains healthy and balanced. The time coming after Panchakarma is called ‘Rasayana Kaal’. At this time, chemical medicines like Chyawanprash, Ashwagandha, Brahmi and Shatavari are considered more effective.
According to Ayurveda, Panchakarma should be done at least once a year, especially when the weather changes. It brings newness in life by balancing mind, body and energy.
