The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the discontinuation of its mCash service, effective after November 30, 2025. From December 1, 2025, the facility to send or claim money through mCash on OnlineSBI and the YONO Lite app will no longer be available. The bank has urged its customers to switch to other modern and more secure digital payment methods.

The mCash service was a unique feature that allowed SBI customers to transfer funds to a third party using only a mobile number or email address, without the need for beneficiary registration. The recipient would receive a secure link and an 8-digit passcode to claim the funds into any bank account. This was particularly useful for quick and small transfers.

Citing the need for enhanced security in digital payments, SBI explained that the mCash facility was based on an older digital infrastructure. With the widespread adoption and greater security of newer technologies, the bank is phasing out the outdated service. The use of mCash had significantly declined with the rise of UPI, which now accounts for the majority of digital payments in India.

Following the shutdown, SBI is directing customers to use alternative transaction modes like UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS for all fund transfers. The bank has specifically highlighted its BHIM SBI Pay (UPI app) as a secure and faster option for payments.Customers who previously relied on mCash for sending money without beneficiary details will now need to utilize these modern platformsSBI has advised users to claim any pending mCash transfers before the service is officially discontinued
