A Netflix star has reportedly been rushed to the hospital after she and her mum came to blows with a man who broke into their property. Nana, who found fame in the noughties from her K-pop group After School, bravely fought off the robber who is thought to have threatened them with a weapon on the hunt for money. Local police said at the time that the 34-year-old musician's mother was knocked out in the violent altercation, with both needing medical attention after sustaining "serious injuries" following the attack.
The incident occurred at their home in Seoul, South Korea, in the early hours of the morning. Thankfully, the pair were able to contain the man until officers arrived on the scene. A local detective told AFP news agency that the intruder, who is in his mid-30s, was attempting to steal their valuables and any money in the property.
He has not been detained on charges of aggravated robbery. Sharing an update on Nana and her mother's condition, South Korea's Yonhap news agency revealed: "Nana also sustained physical injuries while trying to escape the dangerous situation.
"The mother has regained consciousness, and both of them are currently in need of treatment and complete rest." Nana, whose real name is Im Jin-ah, shot to stardom back in 2009 with the K-pop girl group After School. This later branched out into the pop sub-groups, Orange Caramel and After School Red.
Although the group is no longer active, the star has expanded her success from stage to screen as an actor, starring in several TV shows, including Kill It and Justice, both crime dramas that first hit the airwaves in 2019.
More recently, she was cast in the Netflix series Glitch in 2021, a South Korean science fiction series that follows a young woman who teams up with a UFO fanatic to search for her boyfriend who suddenly vanished.
And it appears as though she is going from strength to strength, with the actor said to be starring in the upcoming drama Climax and the Netflix series Scandals (tentative title), where she will take on the role of Hui-yean, a widow who vowed to remain single after the death of her husband.
Based on the 2003 Korean film, Untold Scandal, it reimagines the story of the French novel, Dangerous Liaisons, and includes a "dangerous love game" between the two titular characters. The drama is set to be released early next year.
Despite venturing into acting, music is still Nana's passion, which she channelled her energy into back in September when she released her debut solo album.
Titled Seventh Heaven 16, which means 'the highest happiness', the album pays tribute to her mother. She showed her commitment to her mother in a more permanent way when she unveiled a new tattoo of the year 1968 - the year her mother was born.
