New Delhi: After winning the Women’s World Cup 2025, the Indian team met President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday. This meeting took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where the President congratulated Team India for their victory. During the meeting, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur gifted a jersey signed by the players to President Draupadi Murmu. The captain also got himself photographed with the President while holding the World Cup trophy. The entire team also participated in the photo session with the President. Earlier on Wednesday, the Indian team had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. PM Modi congratulated the team for its historic victory and had a long conversation with the players.

The vice-captain said that PM Modi’s words had inspired him and he had been a source of inspiration for the team. In the title match played on Sunday, India batted first and scored 298 runs losing 7 wickets. For the team, Shefali Verma scored 87 runs in 78 balls, while Deepti Sharma scored the same number of runs in 58 balls. Ayabonga Khaka took maximum 3 wickets from the opposing team.

In reply, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt scored a century of 101 runs in 45.3 overs, but could not lead the team to victory. From Team India, Deepti Sharma took maximum 5 wickets for 39 runs, and Shefali Verma took 2 wickets. This is the first time that the Indian women’s team has won the World Cup title. Earlier, Team India had reached the finals of the ODI World Cup in 2005 and 2017, but failed to win the title. In 2017, they had to face defeat against England by 9 runs.
