The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has officially approved a significant hike in examination fees for students of Classes 10 and 12. The revised fee structure reflects an increase of nearly 35 percent and will come into effect from the 2026–27 academic session. This revision applies to students enrolled in all government and aided schools across Jharkhand. Meanwhile, the application process for the upcoming board examinations has already begun from Tuesday.

The decision was finalized during the recent board meeting, where the council reviewed the existing fee structure and approved the proposal for increased rates. According to JAC, the revised fees are intended to support administrative improvements and examination-related processes.

Revised Fee Structure for Class 10

Under the new fee slab:
– Girls, and students belonging to SC, ST, BC-1, and BC-2 categories will now pay ₹980 for the Class 10 board examination.
– Students from the General and EWS categories will be required to pay ₹1,180.
– Private candidates appearing for the Class 10 exam will also pay ₹1,180.
– Candidates submitting their applications after the deadline will have to pay an additional ₹500 as late fee, applicable to all categories.

Increased Fees for Class 12 Students

The fee hike is also applicable to Class 12 students:
– Girls, and students from SC, ST, BC-1, and BC-2 communities will pay ₹1,100.
– General and EWS candidates must pay ₹1,400.
– Private students appearing for the Class 12 board exam will also be charged ₹1,400.

JAC has further increased the fees for students seeking to reappear for improvement exams or those retaking the board examination for better marks.

Application Process Begins Online

The Jharkhand Academic Council has started the online application process for Class 10 and 12 board exams from 18 November. Eligible students can fill out their examination forms through the official website: www.jac.jharkhand.gov.in.

To apply, students need to visit the website and navigate to the ‘Exam Form Portal’ section. The application window without late fees is open from 18 November to 5 December. Those who miss this deadline will still be able to apply between 6 December and 12 December, but with a late fee charge.

Statewide Fee Implementation Across Government and Aided Schools

The revised fee structure will apply uniformly across all government and aided schools in Jharkhand. The board has stated that the increased fees are expected to improve examination processes and administrative efficiency, ensuring smoother conduct of board exams in the coming sessions.

As board preparations intensify, students are advised to complete their applications within the stipulated timeline and review all details carefully before submission. With the new fee policy taking effect next session, it marks an important shift in the state’s academic administration and exam management framework.
