Mamata Banerjee claimed that so far 28 employees have died due to the pressure of the SIR process in West Bengal. He accused the Election Commission of imposing inhuman workload and demanded an immediate stop to this campaign.

Kolkata/New Delhi. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has claimed that so far 28 people have lost their lives due to SIR in West Bengal. He said this while tweeting on social media handle Mamta Banerjee says that due to excessive workload in the SIR process, many employees are committing suicide. This should be stopped with immediate effect.

Deaths due to stress and workload

Deeply shocked and saddened. Today again we lost Shanti Muni Ekka, a Booth Level Officer in Jalpaiguri Mall, a tribal woman, Anganwadi worker, who took her life under the unbearable pressure of SIR. So far 28 people have lost their lives since the start of SIR. Some have pushed themselves to death due to fear and uncertainty, while others have pushed themselves to death due to stress and workload.

The work which should be completed in 3 years is being done in 2 months

So many precious lives are being lost due to the unplanned and excessive workload imposed by the Election Commission of India. A process which earlier used to take 3 years is now being completed in 2 months just before the elections to please the political masters, thereby putting inhuman pressure on the BLOs. I urge the Election Commission to act with discretion and immediately stop this unplanned campaign before more deaths occur.
