Fenugreek seed water is widely promoted on social media for controlling blood sugar and helping with stomach issues. Because of this, many people start consuming it without understanding whether it is suitable for their body. Experts warn that fenugreek seeds have a hot nature, and for certain individuals, this popular home remedy may cause more harm than benefit. Before following such trends, it is important to know who should completely avoid drinking fenugreek water.

Fenugreek seeds are highly nutritious, containing protein, fiber, healthy fats, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, folate, zinc, copper, and selenium. Despite these benefits, health experts clearly state that it is not safe for everyone.

What experts say
According to Pradeep Kumar Prajapati, Director and Professor (VD) at the All India Institute of Ayurveda, people with Pitta Prakriti (those naturally prone to heat, acidity, or digestive irritation) should not consume fenugreek water. It can increase the risk of indigestion.

He further explains that people suffering from liver disorders should avoid fenugreek seeds entirely. A weak liver struggles to remove toxins from the body, affecting metabolism. When detoxification is impaired, it may lead to bloating, acidity, heaviness, or other digestive problems. In such cases, fenugreek seed water can worsen the condition and damage liver cells.

Common side effects of fenugreek seed water
Even in healthy individuals, drinking fenugreek water can cause side effects such as gas, bloating, or heaviness. Overconsumption may lead to diarrhea or vomiting. Some people may also experience strong body odor or bad breath. Experts advise avoiding such remedies without proper guidance.

Who else should avoid fenugreek seed water?
People with allergies
Those who experience rashes, itching, or swelling should avoid fenugreek water unless an expert approves.

Pregnant women
Some pregnant women develop gestational diabetes and may try fenugreek water to control sugar levels. Experts warn against this. Fenugreek has a warming effect and may increase the risk of premature labor. It should never be consumed during pregnancy without medical supervision.

People taking blood-thinning medicines
Fenugreek can react with blood thinners and may increase the risk of internal bleeding. Such individuals should not consume fenugreek water without a doctor’s advice.

Children and elderly individuals
Children have sensitive digestion, and fenugreek water may disturb their stomach. Similarly, elderly people with delicate health conditions may experience harm instead of benefit, especially if taken to manage blood sugar levels.
