In India, underprivileged populations receive subsidies from the central government through various schemes (such as the PM Kisan Yojana). However, sometimes these subsidies don't reach eligible individuals due to malpractices by intermediaries. Therefore, to mitigate the loss of subsidies to underprivileged populations due to corruption, the government launched the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. In this article, we will discuss Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in detail. Funds lent to beneficiaries under various Government of India schemes are transferred through this system. This includes the PM Kisan Yojana, which is also sent through DBT.

Today, PM Modi transferred the 21st installment of the PM Kisan Yojana (PM Kisan Yojana 21st Installment) to farmers' accounts from Coimbatore. He transferred over ₹18,000 crore to the accounts of over 9 crore farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer.

What is DBT, through which PM Kisan Yojana funds are transferred?
In DBT, benefits or subsidies are transferred directly to citizens living below the poverty line, ensuring that subsidies reach the needy. The government transfers cash benefits and subsidies to beneficiaries' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. On January 1, 2013, the Government of India implemented the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme to transfer subsidy amounts directly to beneficiaries' accounts.

The DBT scheme was initially created by the Planning Commission to focus on the implementation of the DBT program. However, the Implementation Department took charge of the scheme from July 2013 to September 14, 2015. Subsequently, on September 14, 2015, matters related to the DBT scheme were transferred to the Cabinet Secretariat under the Secretary for Coordination and Public Grievances.

How does the DBT scheme work?
The Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme is a well-planned and integrated initiative by the government to help the underprivileged. To increase transparency, the government prepares a list of eligible beneficiaries for this scheme through the Central Scheme Monitoring System (CPSMS). The necessary details are then obtained from Aadhaar cards, enabling seamless transfer of funds to beneficiaries.

DBT has contributed to the success of the PM Kisan Yojana.
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana is a central sector scheme to meet the financial needs of landholding farmers. A financial benefit of ₹6,000 per year is transferred to the bank accounts of farmer families through Direct Benefit Transfer. Certain sections of the higher-income group are excluded from this scheme. Direct Benefit Transfer has played a major role in the success of this scheme. Through this, funds are directly transferred to farmers' accounts, preventing middlemen from embezzling even a single rupee.
