After the landslide victory of NDA in Bihar assembly elections, while the leaders of Grand Alliance are almost missing from public forums, Jan Suraj chief Prashant Kishore (PK) is reacting openly. Despite the electoral defeat, PK not only announced to continue the fight, but also established itself as the main axis of the opposition.
In his press conference he admitted that Jan Suraj’s performance was much weaker than expected. Despite getting around 3.34% vote share, the party did not get a single seat and the deposits of 236 out of 238 candidates were forfeited. Still, an important fact was that Jan Suraj stood third on 129 seats and second on one seat.
According to India Today report, Prashant Kishor said that if Nitish Kumar’s new NDA government gives Rs 2 lakh each to 1.5 crore women as per its election promise, then he will leave politics… even leave Bihar. He has given a deadline of 6 months to the NDA government and claimed that this promise was exaggerated with the help of the government machinery in the election campaign.
Bihar CM Sapath Grahan: Nitish Kumar’s oath today, these faces may be included in the cabinet
PK issued a helpline number for women – 9121691216 and said that Jan Suraj workers will help every woman so that they can go to government offices and demand their rights.
While Nitish Kumar cabinet will be sworn in at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on November 20, Prashant Kishor will observe a 24-hour fast and silence at Gandhi Ashram in Bhitiharwa, West Champaran. This is the same place from where Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha started in 1917. By choosing this place, PK has given the message that his politics is inspired by struggle and self-purification.
Since the election results came, both RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have been away from the stage. After November 14, he neither met the workers nor made a public statement on responsibility for the defeat. Tejashwi Yadav is said to be surrounded by family disputes, while Rahul Gandhi had written a post only on X calling the election shocking and unfair. Under these circumstances, PK’s active stance naturally puts him in the role of the most prominent opposition leader.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Oath Ceremony 2025: Nitish Kumar will take oath as CM for the record 10th time in the presence of Modi.
PK said that we may have made a mistake, but we did not commit the crime of divisive politics or buying votes of the poor. He also admitted that he had an idea of the difficult outcome even before the elections – which was why he had said that Jan Suraj would either be on the throne or on the floor after the elections. On November 20, PK will return to the place from where he started the Jan Suraj movement on October 2, 2022 – West Champaran. His silent fast on the day of swearing-in is being considered a symbol of keeping him on the path of Gandhian struggle.
Despite the election defeat, PK’s strategy, activism and style of raising public issues have made him the most visible opposition leader in Bihar. The way she directly raised women’s issues and openly challenged the NDA government, it is clear that she is fully prepared to fill the vacant place in the opposition.
