Creating another history in Bihar politics, Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time on Thursday (November 20). Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in this ceremony organized at the prestigious Gandhi Maidan in Patna. The special thing was that PM Modi did not attend the swearing-in ceremony held in the year 2020, but this time his presence left many political signals.

Gandhi Maidan has also witnessed the swearing-in of Nitish Kumar in 2005, 2010 and 2015, once again appearing at the center of national politics. This is the same place known for Jayaprakash Narayan’s 1974 call for ‘total revolution’. Arranging the stage of transfer of power at such a historical place gives a political message in itself.

The ceremony also showed the strong unity of the top leadership of NDA. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. The presence of chief ministers of several states, including Chandrababu Naidu, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, demonstrated the collective support of the alliance.

The swearing in was conducted by Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. On this occasion, the presence of LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan and many other senior leaders also made the ceremony more important from the political point of view. This program is considered important in many ways in the context of the changing equations among the leaders and the upcoming strategies of NDA.

Nitish Kumar’s 10th swearing-in not only reflects his long-paced political journey, but also shows that his influence in the politics of Bihar is still strong and decisive. His consistently active presence in all three spheres of governance, administration and coalition politics further elevates him among the most experienced Chief Ministers of India. With this new phase of change of power in Bihar, all eyes are now on the political direction and future policies of the state.
