Singer and actress Ariana Grande has tested positive for COVID-19, affecting her promotional schedule for the upcoming film Wicked: For Good.
Grande shared the news on social media, posting a photo from her November 18 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Shortly after, it was confirmed that she would be withdrawing from several planned appearances, including her guest spot on The Kelly Clarkson Show and Q&A panels to the film. Her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, will still appear on the show as scheduled.
The announcement comes days after both Grande and Erivo largely skipped interviews at the film’s New York City premiere on November 17. Universal Pictures had earlier noted that Erivo was unwell and temporarily lost her voice. Despite this, both stars walked the red carpet and joined a livestream, where Grande humorously commented on Erivo’s quiet tone.
This is the latest challenge in promoting Wicked: For Good. Earlier this month, Grande missed the São Paulo premiere due to a last-minute “safety issue” with her flight. During promotion for the first Wicked film in 2024, both stars also contracted COVID-19 just before shooting key scenes, which Grande described as critical to the film.
Erivo recently updated fans on her condition, noting that her voice had not fully returned but jokingly calling the raspiness “kind of sexy.”
Wicked: For Good is set to release in theaters on November 21.
