Delhi: Mumbai team has got a big advantage before the start of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). According to reports, Suryakumar Yadav will lead Mumbai in this tournament. It has been said in the report of The Indian Express that after his availability is decided, now preparations are on to make him the captain. The tournament will start from 26th November.

Suryakumar Yadav will become the captain of Mumbai

Suryakumar will be able to play for the team in the first few matches. After this, he will have to join Team India to prepare for the five-match T20I series between India and South Africa to be held in December. This series will run from December 9 to December 19.

Mumbai Chief Selector Sanjay Patil had already told that both Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dubey will be available for SMAT. He had said that the team will be selected on November 21. He told that Surya told him that he will be available for the entire tournament and the same is the situation with Shivam Dubey.

However, it is believed that both the players will not be able to stay in the entire tournament because they will have to go with the Indian team before the series. Therefore, he will be able to play for Mumbai only till the initial round. Due to injury, Shreyas Iyer will also not be able to join the team.

Mumbai will play its first match against Railways on 26 November at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Suryakumar and Shivam had recently told MCA that they would not play Ranji matches to prepare for the South Africa T20I series.
