New changes are often seen in the world of cricket, but this time a completely new format has been introduced, which will take the excitement of cricket to greater heights. The name of this new format is ‘Test Twenty’, which aims to combine the seriousness of Test cricket and the excitement of T20. For this format, great West Indies player Sir Clive Lloyd, former South African captain AB de Villiers, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden and former Team India player Harbhajan Singh have been included in the Test Twenty Advisory Board. Additionally, former Rajasthan Royals CEO Michael Fordham has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the format.

Test Twenty will be the world’s first 80-over cricket format. Each team will get a chance to play two innings of 20-20 overs, that is, the team will bat twice, just like a test match. In this, a combination of the rules of both Test cricket and T20 will be seen. In this format, four possible outcomes are win, loss, tie or draw. The first season of Test Twenty20 will start in January 2026. A total of six franchise teams will participate in it. Out of which three teams will be from India, while the remaining three will represent Dubai, London and America. There will be 16 players in each team.

This new format was officially inaugurated on 16 October 2025. Former South African legend AB de Villiers said, “Test Twenty will bring new energy and enthusiasm to cricket. This format will give more opportunities to young players to showcase their talent.” West Indies legend Sir Clive Lloyd added, “Cricket has always changed with the times, but this time the change is very thoughtful and creative. Test Twenty will revitalize the art of the game and give it a modern flavour.” In this way, ‘Test Twenty’ format is ready to write a new chapter in the history of cricket. Where tradition and modernity will join hands on the same field.
