Prince William and Princess Catherine announced their engagement in November 2010, much to the delight of royal fans across the globe who had been waiting years for such an announcement. The Prince and Princess of Wales had a long relationship before the big milestone, having started dating in 2002 after meeting at St Andrew's University in Scotland.

While they may have had a very small break during this time, the couple were in a happy and stable relationship, which made headlines. It also meant that Catherine was frequently followed by paparazzi, even when leaving her London flat for a day at work.

However, this did not seem to last long, with one insider revealing that Catherine experienced a major change after it was announced that she was engaged to Prince William.

Speaking exclusively to Smooth Spins Casino, Jack Stooks, who worked as a gardener at Highgrove House for 20 years, recalled exactly what changed after the announcement.

Although many may remember that time, Jack worked in the royal household when the news broke, and saw firsthand just how quickly things changed.

He recalled: "Things definitely changed after the engagement. Before that, Kate had no royal protection, and the press followed her everywhere, leaving little privacy.

"I believe the pressure even contributed to their brief breakup. Once the engagement was announced, she was assigned personal protection officers, allowing her to move around safely and with less stress."

He also recalled that while changes had taken place, the couple - and their love - did not change. He said: "Public outings became rarer, but behind closed doors, she and William remained warm and down to earth."

In their engagement interview, Princess Catherine spoke about how she felt about soon entering the Royal Family and becoming a working royal.

She said: "It is obviously nerve-wracking because I don't know the ropes really. But I'm willing to learn quickly and work hard. I really hope I can make a difference and help even in the smallest way."
