Engine Overheating: The car engine is the most expensive and sensitive part of the vehicle. Even a small carelessness in taking care of it can lead to major problems and costly repairs in the future. Many times, the engine of the car overheats during the journey, due to which the car may have to be stopped in the middle of the journey. There are many reasons for engine overheating, the most common reason being driving the car continuously for a long time. Continuous driving increases the pressure on the engine and the temperature becomes higher than normal.
The engine may also become hotter than normal when driving in hot weather. The third major reason is leakage of the coolant system. If coolant leaks, the temperature inside the engine cannot be controlled, due to which the engine starts overheating quickly and increases the risk of damage to the vehicle.
What to do immediately if the engine overheats?
If the engine suddenly overheats during the journey, then some mistakes should not be made at all. The biggest rule is not to forcefully drive the vehicle. Doing so may cause permanent damage to the engine and may cost you thousands of rupees in the future. As soon as the temperature meter reaches the red zone or there is a sign of increasing heat, immediately stop the vehicle at a safe place. Switch off the engine and let it cool for some time. One important thing is to immediately turn off the AC when the engine gets hot, so that there is no extra load on the engine and the temperature can gradually become normal.
Never open the radiator cap, it can be fatal.
Many people, in a panic, immediately open the radiator cap and try to check the temperature. But the company manual clearly warns, “Do not open the radiator cap immediately after stopping the engine.” Doing so may cause the boiling hot coolant to burst out under pressure and cause serious injury. Therefore, it is very important to wait until the engine has completely cooled down.
Check for coolant leakage
If the engine is repeatedly overheating, it is possible that coolant is leaking from somewhere in the car. Signs of this may be: drops of coolant under the car, moisture near the pipes, visible steam around the radiator. If you do not find any leakage, it is important to take the vehicle to a good mechanic immediately. Even a small leakage can lead to a major engine failure in the future.
