WhatsApp has a useful feature called Voice Message Transcript. It allows you to read the entire contents of a voice note directly in text without actually listening to it. This feature is now available on both Android and iOS. Let's show you how to turn it on.

WhatsApp has now launched a feature that will permanently eliminate the problem of hearing voice messages. Often, when we're in a meeting, in a noisy place, or without earphones, it becomes difficult to hear voice notes. To address this problem, WhatsApp is now offering the option to convert voice messages to text. This feature has begun rolling out to Android and iOS users worldwide and will reach everyone in the coming weeks.

How does this feature work?

WhatsApp has not clearly stated whether this transcription feature is powered by AI. However, the company has stated that voice message transcription happens entirely on your mobile device. This means your message remains end-to-end encrypted, and even WhatsApp cannot hear or read it. This feature works securely without compromising privacy.

In which languages will this feature be available?

According to the company, this feature is currently available in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. However, the beta version of the app already shows the option to convert Hindi voice messages to text. It is expected that Hindi support will also be officially released in future updates.

How to turn on the Voice Transcript feature?

This feature is turned off by default, so to use it, you will need to turn it on yourself in Settings. The process is quite simple.

Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.

Here, you will need to go to the Chats section.

Scroll down and turn on Voice Communication Transcripts.

Select your preferred language.

Download the language pack and tap Set Up Now.

Long-press any voice message and click Transcribe.

Your voice note will now be converted to text.
