Bengaluru: Mahindra on Thursday launched a seven-seater electric SUV, the XEV 9S, priced at ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), entering a segment dominated by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles. The XEV 9S is positioned above the XEV 9e, which was launched last year as the company's mid-premium SUV with a horde of advanced technologies. The 9S retains all of them, but Mahindra says the “S” in the moniker represents space, highlighting a roomier cabin.

"With the XEV 9S, we are not just playing in the EV segment, we're expanding it", Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of the automotive division at Mahindra, said in a statement.

Mahindra XEV 9S Design

The 9S follows the same design language as the 9e and even the BE 6, featuring an eye-catching front with connected LEDs. The tail lamp uses a split-LED strip instead of a continuous design, offering a distinction between the 9e and the 9S. The SUV has a cabin volume of 3,941 litres, alongside a boot space of 527 litres and a 150-litre frunk, which Mahindra claims are the best in its class. The second row seats can slide and recline, giving passengers more comfort. The rear seats are ventilated alongside the ones on the front, and even feature the Boss Mode. Mahindra has equipped the SUV with a sunroof across variants.

Mahindra XEV 9S Power

Starting at 59kWh for battery pack options, the Mahindra XEV 9S features a 210kW motor that can generate a total torque of 380Nm. Mahindra claims ranges of 400km, 450km, and 500km for 59kWh, 70kWh, and 79kWh battery packs. The SUV can go from 0 to 100kmph in about seven seconds, maxing out at a speed of 202kmph. Mahindra has equipped the SUV with Level 2+ ADAS, supported by the company's INGLO platform, five radars, and 1 vision camera.

Mahindra XEV 9S Technology

Powering the infotainment and vehicle control system on the Mahindra XEV 9S is the company's new MAIA AI, its artificial intelligence-based system that offers real-time help while driving. The dashboard uses a triple-screen setup, while the rear passengers can access two BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) rear entertainment displays. The LEDs can be monitored using VR. A 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system will offer an immersive sound experience, while the VisionX augmented reality HUD (Heads-Up Display) will offer an improved driving experience. It also houses an air purifier system inside. The SUV features a 65W fast charging port on the outside. Users also get Driver Drowsiness Detection functionality on the SUV.
