EPF Passbook Entries Missing for September–October? EPFO Explains the Reason Behind the Delay

Many EPF subscribers have recently noticed that their passbooks do not show contributions made during September and October 2025. Concerned users raised queries on social media, prompting the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to issue an official clarification. According to the authority, the missing entries are temporary and caused by an ongoing system upgrade.

Here is a detailed explanation of the issue, the reason behind the delay, and when you can expect your EPF passbook to reflect the pending entries.

Why Are September–October EPF Entries Missing?

EPFO has confirmed that it is currently upgrading its Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) ledger posting system. This backend enhancement temporarily paused the posting of contributions for September and October in the members’ passbooks. As a result, many users are noticing blank entries or missing records for these two months.

The organisation has assured members that this is a technical delay—not an issue with employer contributions—and that all entries will reappear automatically once the upgrade is complete.

When Will the Passbook Update Be Completed?

According to EPFO, the upgrade is expected to be completed within two to three days. After this, all pending entries for September and October 2025 will be posted automatically in the EPF passbook. Members will not need to raise a complaint or take any additional steps.

EPFO Apologises for the Inconvenience

EPFO expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience and clarified that these upgrades are part of its broader effort to improve service delivery. The organisation is working on multiple technology enhancements to make account access, claim filing, and passbook viewing smoother and more efficient.

New Features Recently Introduced by EPFO

As part of its digital transformation efforts, EPFO has rolled out several member-friendly features:

1. Digital Life Certificate via Facial Authentication

Pensioners can now submit their life certificates from home using face authentication, reducing the need for physical verification.

2. Online Profile Update Facility

Members and employers can now file profile update requests directly through the Unified Portal, making updates quicker and more transparent.

3. Passbook Lite

A simplified version of the passbook that offers a quick summary of contributions, withdrawals, and the current balance—without navigating to additional websites.

How to Check Your Updated EPF Passbook

Once the system upgrade is complete, you can check your updated passbook using these steps:

  1. Visit the UAN Member e-Sewa Portal

  2. Log in using your UAN, password, and OTP

  3. Click on ‘Passbook Lite’ from the dashboard

  4. View or download your contribution summary and balance

When Will September–October Contributions Appear?

As soon as the ECR ledger upgrade is completed, EPFO will automatically reflect all missing entries for September and October 2025 in your passbook. Members will then be able to view their accurate PF balance without any manual intervention.

Bottom Line

The missing EPF passbook entries for September and October 2025 are a temporary result of system maintenance. EPFO has reassured members that the upgrade will be completed in a couple of days and all entries will be restored automatically. Meanwhile, subscribers can continue accessing other EPFO services normally, including Passbook Lite, online profile updates, and digital life certificate submission.

This update offers clarity and reassurance to millions of EPF members who rely on timely passbook updates to track their retirement savings.
