Aadhaar Update: In today’s time, ‘Aadhaar Card’ has become the most important document of our identity. Be it a bank account or a government scheme, without Aadhaar the vehicle does not move forward. But, often to change name, address or date of birth in Aadhaar, people were worried that “which paper will work and which will not?”
If you too were in this dilemma, then there is very good news for you. UIDAI has greatly simplified the rules for updating Aadhaar and making a new one. Under this new amendment of 2025, the list of documents has been increased so that the general public does not have to worry.
Let us understand in simple language what are the rules for people and children above 18 years of age and which documents will be useful.
1. For adults above 18 years of age
If you’re 18 years of age or older, you now have a lot of options. You just have to see what you want to change.
- For ID & Address Proof:
Old reliable documents like passport, voter ID card, driving license, ration card and PAN card will do.
But This is a matter of relief Now, as proof of address, you can also give the electricity, water, telephone, broadband or gas connection bill of last 3 months. If you have a bank passbook (with photo) or a one year old insurance policy, that will also be valid. I-cards of government employees and freedom fighters cards are also included in the list. - For Date of Birth:
Birth certificate is the best. Apart from this, passport, 10th/12th mark sheet (with date written on it), or pension papers will also be valid. - Relationship Proof (HoF):
If you do not have any document and you are getting your card made on the basis of ‘Head of Family’, then for this, birth certificate, MNREGA job card or any legal order of the court will be valid.
2. Children’s Aadhaar: Now the tension of parents is less
The rules are slightly different regarding children’s Aadhaar, which is divided into two parts:
- Children aged 0 to 5 years:
for small children Birth Certificate Now it has been made mandatory. Their base will be formed only by linking it to the base of the head of the family (like father or mother). Biometrics are not needed at this age. - Children aged 5 to 18 years:
The rules for school-going children are the same as for adults. Their school ID card or school records can be used for date of birth and identification. If there is no document, they can also get Aadhaar updated with the help of ‘Head of Family’.
3. New rules in certain cases (Aadhaar update)
UIDAI has also taken care of people who have had major changes in their lives:
- After marriage or divorce: Now it has become easy to change name or address by showing marriage certificate or divorce decree.
- On changing name: If you have changed your name legally, then its Gazette Notification will be valid.
- Biggest relief: Now you can also give ‘Self-Declaration’ of your close relative for change of address, which will be of great help to those living on rent.
