Will this be the final date?
The transport department has extended the deadline for installation of high-security number plates till December 31. This is the fifth extension. However, more than 15 lakh vehicles in Pune are still not fitted with high-security number plates. So, will all these number plates be installed in one month? Such a question has arisen.
HSRP mandatory for these vehicles?
As per the order of the High Court, the Transport Department had made it mandatory to install Security (HSRP) number plates on all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Accordingly, the process of installing these number plates has been started from January. The purpose of this decision is to quickly identify vehicles involved in accidents or crimes and make everyone’s vehicles safer. Therefore, it is being made mandatory to install security number plates on all vehicles.

When will Punekar install HSRP number plates?
So far, 7,50,000 vehicle owners in Pune have installed security number plates, while around 1,05,000 vehicle owners have registered for the same. Vehicles worth more than Rs 25 lakh in Pune must be fitted with security number plates. However, only one million vehicles have been registered so far. This means that around 1,50,000 vehicles in Pune alone still do not have safety number plates.
Penalty to be paid after December 31?
Despite repeated extensions by the transport department, they have not addressed the matter. In Pune, 65% of vehicles still do not have number plates. Currently, vehicles without HSRP number plates are not processed at the RTO. Vehicles without number plates will be fined after December 31, hence an appeal to install them immediately.
