Introduction to Paush month
Know what to do and what not to do in this month
Pausha month is the tenth month of the Hindu calendar, coming after Margashirsha. As soon as it ends, the month of Magh begins. When Sun God enters Sagittarius, then the month of Pausha is considered to begin. From the religious point of view, the month of Pausha is considered extremely auspicious for penance, charity, fasting and worship of Sun God.
Paush month dates 2025
In the year 2025, the month of Paush will start on Friday, 5 December and will end on Saturday, 3 January 2026. The most important day of this month is Paush Purnima, on which people perform auspicious activities like bathing, worship and charity.
Importance of Paush month
According to religious beliefs, Pausha month is most auspicious for worshiping Sun God, attaining wealth and health. In this month, worshiping the Sun, doing charity and taking holy bath increases the age, health and good fortune. Besides, making offerings for the peace of ancestors’ souls is also considered auspicious in this month.
What to do in the month of Pausha?
- For the peace of ancestors, do Pitru Tarpan and charity.
- Donate blankets, warm clothes, jaggery and sesame seeds to the needy.
- Do sadhana and donate food and warm clothes at midnight.
- After bathing in the morning, offer Arghya to the Sun God.
- Keep a fast on Sunday and break the fast with sweet food.
What not to do in the month of Pausha?
- Do not perform auspicious activities like marriage, housewarming, mundan.
- Avoid Tamasic foods like meat, alcohol, radish, brinjal and cauliflower.
- Avoid having negative thoughts and bad words.
- Auspicious activities do not give auspicious results in this month.
