News Desk. There is important news for passengers traveling by railway. Major changes are going to be implemented in the Tatkal ticket booking process from 1st December 2025. Western Railway has given information about this new arrangement through social media platform X. Now Tatkal tickets can be booked only after One Time Password (OTP) verification.

How will the new system work?

Under the new system, it will be mandatory for the passenger booking Tatkal ticket to provide a valid mobile number at the time of booking. Tickets will be issued only after successful verification of OTP sent to the same mobile number. Railways has requested passengers to enter their mobile number correctly at the time of booking, so that there is no interruption in the process.

According to Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railways, this new OTP based ticket authentication system will be implemented from midnight of December 1. In the initial phase, this change will be made in Mumbai Central–Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express (Train No. 12009 and 12010). After getting success in Shatabdi Express, it will be gradually implemented on other trains.

New system will be applicable on all mediums

The new OTP process will not be limited to online booking only. This will be applicable to fully computerized PRS counters, authorized agents, IRCTC website and mobile app. Railways says that this will make Tatkal ticket booking more transparent and secure.

With the implementation of this new system, rigging and non-genuine booking of Tatkal tickets will be stopped. It will be easier for genuine passengers to get tickets and the ticket booking process will become more smooth and reliable. Passengers have been advised to be ready for OTP verification while booking from December 1, so that there is no problem in the journey.
