A major change has been made in Lucknow Metro Second Phase. Charbagh, Medical College and Chowk station will be built 500 meters away from the fixed location. 12 stations will be built on the 11.16 km route and Rs 5800 crore will be spent on the project. The construction will be completed in three phases.

The metro journey in the heart of Lucknow is now going to take a new turn. The metro stations being built at Charbagh, Medical College and Chowk, the busiest places in the city, will no longer be built at their designated locations. Due to lack of space and security challenges, they will be shifted back and forth by about five hundred meters. However, officials are claiming that such a change has been made keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers and it will not affect the travel experience.

Big change in second phase, construction will be done in three phases

The second phase of expansion of Lucknow Metro from Charbagh to Basant Kunj has already been officially announced. After getting permission from the government, the route was finalized and now the land for its construction is ready. A total of 12 stations will be built on this 11.16 kilometer long corridor, which includes 7 underground and 5 elevated stations.

The entire project will cost around Rs 5800 crore and it is targeted to be completed in five years. Construction is expected to pick up pace in the beginning of the new year. Ground and geotech surveys for the project have now been completed.

Why will Charbagh, Medical College and Chowk stations be shifted?

The biggest changes will be seen in three major stations:

  • charbagh
  • medical college
  • square intersection

These stations will be built up to 500 meters away from their previously decided location. Due to construction of multi-storey bus stand and underground in Charbagh, it has become necessary to change the station location. Keeping security and space management in mind, the stations will be shifted slightly forward or backward.

Similarly, due to lack of sufficient space for construction at Medical College and Chowk intersection, the location of the metro station will be changed. Officials say that there will be no impact on passenger movement and facilities.

The entire corridor will be built in three phases

According to sources, the second phase will be constructed in three phases:

  • First phase: Construction of depot in 40 acres area at Basantkunj.
  • Phase II: Construction of elevated stations on the corridor
  • Third phase: Construction of underground stations, including Charbagh, Medical Square and Chowk.

These 12 stations will be constructed

The stations to be built in the second phase are as follows:

Underground stations (7):

  • charbagh
  • Gautam Buddha Nagar
  • Aminabad
  • Pandeganj
  • City Railway Station
  • Medical Square
  • Chowk

Elevated Station (5):

  • Thakurganj
  • Balaganj
  • Sarfarazganj
  • moosabagh
  • Basantkunj

Basant Kunj will become the main center of second phase

According to Metro Managing Director Sushil Kumar, the first and important work of the entire second phase is the construction of depot in Basant Kunj. After this, elevated and finally underground stations will be built. With new routes, new locations and huge budget, Lucknow Metro is rapidly moving towards its next expansion.
