How are LPG prices determined?
LPG prices are revised monthly by fuel retailers. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) typically adjust cooking gas prices on the first of every month.
In India, LPG prices are determined based on the Import Parity Price (IPP) model, which takes into account international crude oil prices, the dollar-to-rupee exchange rate, freight charges, insurance, customs duties, and other taxes.
Additionally, the cost of transporting gas from refineries and depots to different parts of cities or remote areas varies, so LPG prices vary from state to state due to varying tax and transportation costs. Transporting gas to hilly and remote areas typically costs more, leading to higher prices in those areas.
