Rain Alert For 22 Odisha Dists As Deep Depression Over Bay Inches Closer To Chennai

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a nowcast warning for 22 districts of Odisha till 1 pm.

Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at few places in the districts of Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul. Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Puri.

Meanwhile, the Deep Depression (Remnant of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah) over southwest Bay of Bengal, moving northwards with the speed of 10 kmph, was about 40 km from Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts. “It is very likely to move slowly northwards parallel to the North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts and weaken into a Depression during the next 12 hours.”

The IMD further stated that the system will be centered over southwest & adjoining west central Bay of Bengal within a minimum distance of 30 km from the Chennai coast by noon.

Under its influence, heavy rainfall may occur in north Tamil Nadu and Odisha on December 1; coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam & Rayalaseema on December 1-2 and Telangana on December 1.

On Sunday, the weather agency had warned of dense fog at one or two places in Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Koraput and Kalahandi districts till Monday morning. The night temperature is expected to fall in Odisha by 2-3 degrees again after 3 days.
