New Delhi, Dec 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' initiative for enhancing fitness awareness throughout the country.
During his radio show Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, PM Modi expressed his support for the initiative.
“Numerous competitions are gaining popularity among our youth. Many individuals are joining in events like Fit India Sundays on Cycle. These initiatives are excellent for promoting fitness,” the Prime Minister stated in the 128th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat'.
Rajasthan's Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who spearheaded the 51st edition of the cycling campaign on November 30 from Jaipur, acknowledged PM Modi’s ongoing encouragement towards fostering a culture of health and wellness.
“Few Prime Ministers globally make such impactful calls for the health and well-being of their citizens. Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized the importance of Fit India,” Rathore remarked.
“From advocating reduced oil consumption to promoting millets (shree anna) and actively addressing obesity, our Prime Minister has always encouraged us to pursue fitness through yoga, cycling, running, and other activities. The movement initiated through Sundays on Cycle is a clear testament to this,” added the Athens 2004 Olympic silver medalist.
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative commenced in December 2024, under the leadership of Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.
This weekly event embodies PM Modi's vision of "Fitness Ka Dose, Adha Ghanta Roz" and the "Fight Against Obesity".
Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a significant public movement, with citizens actively participating nationwide.
More than 4,000 NaMo Fit India Cycling Clubs, along with countless citizens, engage in cycling regularly, transforming this initiative into a community-driven fitness revolution. These clubs conduct the event weekly.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) also plays a crucial role in ensuring a widespread presence of SoC activities across its SAI Training Centres (STCs), including locations like Kokrajhar in Assam, Jagatpur and Badal in Punjab, Utlou in Manipur, Kargil in Ladakh, among others.
Additionally, events are organized at various Khelo India Centers, including Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, and Dhenkanal, as well as in 23 SAI National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) across the country every Sunday.
