The inaugural session of Bihar's 18th Assembly commenced on Monday, featuring the oath-taking of legislators. Prior to the proceedings, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav, were formally welcomed at the assembly portico. The oath-taking session was initiated by Protem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav, starting with the ministers followed by the newly elected legislators.
Before the session began, the newly elected members expressed their commitment to working for the welfare of the people of Bihar and their respective constituencies. Vinay Kumar Chaudhary, a newly elected member from JDU, emphasized the party's dedication to public welfare in his speech. He stated, 'We work for the people and will continue to do so,' reflecting the party's focus on serving the citizens of Bihar.
Newly elected LJP-Ram Vilas member Vishnu Dev Paswan shared his vision for the youth of Bihar. He remarked, 'I want to create job opportunities so that the youth of Bihar do not have to migrate.' He highlighted the need for economic development and job creation in the state, criticizing the political landscape for hindering Bihar's rightful progress.
Bhagwant Virendra, an elected member from RJD, opposed the NDA's victory in the state. He underscored the opposition's resolve to voice the concerns of the public, stating, 'Our morale is high, and the people have voted for us.' He accused the NDA of forming the government through vote theft rather than a legitimate mandate, asserting that while their numbers may be fewer, their ability to raise concerns remains strong.
Mathili Thakur, the youngest elected member from BJP in the history of the Bihar Assembly, described the day as a 'significant day' and the beginning of a new chapter in her life. She expressed her excitement, saying, 'Today is a big day for me as I will become a legislator after taking the oath. It marks the start of a new life.' Last month, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar allocated cabinet departments to the newly elected NDA legislators who took the oath of office, with the Home Department assigned to the ally BJP. Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Chaudhary has been given charge of the Home Department, marking the first time since coming to power in 2005 that Kumar will not oversee this department.
