Cybercriminals are increasingly using WhatsApp video calls to trick users. Posing as bank officials, they convince users to click links or install APK files. Once the user downloads the file, the virus infiltrates the phone immediately.

To protect yourself from Sturus and similar malware:

• Never share banking information over calls, messages, or links.

Steps to Take After Falling Victim

1. Immediately contact your bank’s customer care or local branch to temporarily block your account and halt transactions.

2. Report the incident to the National Cyber Crime Helpline by calling 1930 and file an online complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.

3. Remove suspicious apps immediately and consider a factory reset to completely remove the virus.
