Lucknow. The era of irrigation problems is about to end for the farmers of Uttar Pradesh. The state government has launched a new facility to promote solar energy based irrigation systems under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha and Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme. This initiative will provide special benefits to the farmers of those areas where electricity supply is not regular and crops are affected due to lack of timely irrigation.
Subsidy up to Rs 2.5 lakh for solar pumps
Under the scheme, farmers will be provided solar pumps with capacity ranging from 2 Horse Power (HP) to 10 HP. The central and state governments together are providing subsidy ranging from Rs 60 thousand to about Rs 2.5 lakh on these pumps.
After getting the subsidy, farmers will have to pay only a small contribution amount, whereas in the long run they will not have to spend any extra money on irrigation. Diesel expenses will be almost eliminated due to solar powered pumps.
Registration will be done for only Rs 5,000
A registration fee of only Rs 5,000 is being charged from farmers wishing to avail the benefits of the scheme. This fee has been kept for confirmation of the application. After this, solar pumps will be provided to the selected farmers at subsidized rates.
Application process completely online
The application process has been completely digitalized so that farmers do not have to visit any government office. Farmers can submit their online application by visiting the official website of the Agriculture Department. The last date has been fixed as 15th December, so interested farmers can apply soon and avail the benefits.
Selection will be done through e-lottery
After applying online, eligible beneficiaries will be selected through e-lottery system. This process has been created with the aim of keeping it transparent and fair. Solar pumps will be provided to the selected farmers on time.
