Ruth Langsford has shared an update on her divorce from Eamonn Holmes with a resolute message. The 65 year old presenter returned to her regular presenting duties onITV's Loose Women on Monday alongside Janet Street-Porter, Brenda Edwards and Jane Moore.
During a discussion about divorce and whether it could provide a fresh start, Ruth, who shares 23 year old son Jack with her former This Morning colleague, acknowledged she's had little option but to carry on, and suggested this would likely ring true for anyone facing similar circumstances.
She remarked: "For whatever reason you find yourself in the situation, whether it was amicable, not amicable, your choice, their choice, joint, here you are. All you can do is get on with life. As Gloria Gaynor said, what do I do? Do I lay down and die or do I survive?"
Ruth has previously revealed that people can often 'surprise themselves' following a major life change such as marital breakdown, despite initial feelings of 'panic', particularly when age becomes a factor.
She continued: "I think you can surprise yourself - you have that moment where you panic panic panic and the age thing comes into it. You think oh no I'm 65 what will I do?"
Drawing inspiration from the iconic Gloria Gaynor song, I Will Survive, Ruth emphasised that the best way to handle a breakup is to confront it head-on, reports The Mirror.
She declared: "But like the song, do I crumble? Do I lay down and die? Or do I survive? You just have to get up and dust yourself off and whatever that new path is going to be, you have to deal with it."
Ruth's remarks came amidst personal turmoil, as the former Strictly Come Dancing star recently opened up about juggling her bustling television career while caring for her 94 year old mother Joan, who is battling Alzheimer's.
She explained: "She wouldn't remember what she's had for her lunch or breakfast, and if I go and see her, when I leave, if you said to her was Ruth here today, she'd say no. But in the moment, she still knows it's me - as soon as she sees me, she says 'Oh, what a lovely surprise!' like she hasn't seen me for months.
"It's very difficult, but I'm much more well-versed in this with my mum, because of my dad. We as a family had no idea about Alzheimer's or dementia when he got it, and we were a bit lost. I learned a lot of lessons with my dad."
