Kolkata: The Election Commission of India has identified zero "uncollectible" enumeration forms in 2,208 polling booths, where not a single voter has been found dead, shifted, absent or their names duplicated. West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal has sought a report within 24 hours from the District Electoral Officers of 22 of the total 24 districts in the state for reporting such cases. The highest (760) was reported from South 24 Parganas district. Malda, Murshidabad and Nadia also topped the list.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal CEO's office turned into a warzone as the Trinamool-backed 'BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee' members carried out major protests.
"That not a single voter has died, shifted or found absent in a single booth seems absurd," a top official said.
One 'uncollectible' EF was reported in 542 polling booths, two such EFs in 420 booths; three in 372 booths, four in 374, five in 481, six in 548, seven in 585, eight in 678 and nine in 779 and 10 in 857. According to a top official, cases where zero to 10 such forms were reported were being scrutinised as finding voters who are dead, shifted permanently, absent and duplicate is a common phenomena.
BLO PROTEST
A scuffle took place when Trinamool-backed BLOs under 'BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee' tried to break the barricades. The protests continued for several hours as the BLOs shouted slogans and tried to break the barricades to enter the CEO's office.
Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari came to the CEO's office to submit a deputation carrying a five-point demand. The LoP has claimed that there were 30-35 violations in Bengal and demanded a probe by an independent agency. They demanded a probe into the role of TMC's political consultant IPAC in the EF digitisation.
Adhikari met the WB-CEO and the additional CEO and appealed to them to monitor the digitisation of EFs during November 26-28 claiming that about 1.25 crore fake entries were made allegedly on the insistence by IPAC. At least 30,000 of these were illegal voters, he alleged.
Adhikari alleged during November 26-28, I-PAC pressurised the BLOs and took OTPs from them and did irregularities in several categories. "We have made specific complaints against 5,000 BLOs. We want a reply to these complaints," they said. The CEO's office said this will be investigated with the help of physical verification, zone observers and technology.
