Rules changed from December 1, 2025: Railway Tatkal ticket, SBI ATM charge, mCash closed and caller name system implemented

IRCTC OTP Rule: With the beginning of December 2025, many major rules have come into effect for travelers, bank customers and businessmen across the country. Indian Railways has made major changes in the Tatkal ticket booking process. otp based system has been made mandatory. There itself SBI by ATM Transaction charges have been revised, mCash facility has been discontinued, rules regarding GST returns have become stricter, and now when a call is received on the mobile, the real name of the caller will be visible. These changes will have a direct impact on crores of consumers.

OTP mandatory for Tatkal ticket booking

From December 1, Railways has implemented OTP system on Tatkal ticket booking. It will start from Mumbai Central Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express. While booking the ticket, it will be mandatory to enter the OTP sent to the mobile number registered in the IRCTC account. According to Railways, “This step will stop ticket booking on fake mobile numbers and will increase the chances of genuine passengers getting tickets.” This system will be implemented in all railway zones in the coming months.

New system will be implemented everywhere from online to railway counter

The new system will not be limited to just the IRCTC website or mobile app. This rule will be applicable to computerized railway counters, authorized railway agents, and all online platforms. The main objective of this change is to ensure correct identification of passengers. Railways has advised to keep your mobile number updated before booking tickets as it will not be possible to change the number after the OTP is sent.

Changes in SBI ATM transactions

  • From December 1, SBI has changed the rules of ATM and ADWM transactions.
  • Salary account holders will now get only 10 free transactions.
  • After this, a fee of Rs 23 will have to be paid per transaction.
  • Non-financial transaction charges have been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 11.
  • The limit of free transactions for savings account holders has been fixed at 5.

The bank says that these changes have been made with the aim of increasing service quality and encouraging digital payments.

mcash facility closed

SBI has discontinued mCash service available on YONO Lite and Online SBI. From December 1, neither money can be sent nor received through this feature. The bank has advised customers to use options like UPI, IMPS, NEFT and RTGS. According to SBI, this step was necessary to improve security.

Strict action on GST returns

GSTN has announced that traders who have not been filing GST returns for three years or more will not be able to file fresh returns after December. They will have to update the old returns first. The objective is to bring discipline in the tax system and increase tax compliance.

Now the real name of the caller will be visible

From December 15, the Department of Telecommunications is going to implement CNAP (Caller Name Presentation) system. After this, when the call comes, the same name will appear on the phone screen, “which the caller has entered in his KYC form.” This will effectively stop fake and spam calls and the need for apps like Truecaller will be significantly reduced.
