Nanded: A young woman from Nanded in Maharashtra “married” her lover’s corpse and later claimed that he had been murdered by her family. In an explosive statement, she claimed that it was the police who invited her brother to commit the crime.
Sakhyam Tate (23) and Anchal were in a relationship for the last three years and the two planned to get married. However, Anchal’s family was against the marriage as Sakhyam belonged to the Scheduled Caste.
The woman who applied Sakhyam’s blood to the parting of her hair as a mark of their marriage on Thursday, made her explosive comments to news agency ANI on Monday.
According to Anchal, her family told Sakhyam that he would have to convert to Hinduism if he wanted to marry her. He agreed to do that. However, her family was just waiting for an opportunity to kill him, she claimed.
“We were together for three years. My family got to know about it. Because he was a Scheduled Caste, my family did not agree to our marriage. My family had told him that if he wanted to marry me, he would have to convert to Hinduism. He was ready to do this also. My family was just waiting for an opportunity to kill him. We had talked in the morning when he was going to the station to drop off his aunt,” she said.
Anchal continued, “Even I had no idea this would happen. I got to know about this the next day from the newspaper. No one told me about it.”
She further alleged that the day Sakhyam was killed, her brother took her to the police station to file a false case against him; however, she did not agree to file any case.
“The policemen told my brother that instead of fabricating cases, why don’t you actually kill the concerned person before coming to us? My brother took it as a challenge and killed Sakhyam,” she claimed.
The crime was reported from Nanded’s Milind Nagar, under Itwara Police Station limits on Thursday evening. The police confirmed that Sakhyam and Anchal had been in a relationship for three years.
Sakhyam would visit Anchal’s home often as he was close to her brother. While they had no problem with the friendship, the family put its foot down when Anchal announced her decision to marry Sakhyam.
After coming to know of his death, Anchal went to Sakhyam’s residence. Before the last rites, she reportedly carried out rituals that a bride performs for her groom. She applied haldi to his body, placed sindoor on his forehead and then filled her own hair parting with his blood. She has now demanded the death penalty for those involved in the murder.
