New Delhi: India is already a major footwear exporter, but it must expand the business if it wants to boost exports further, President Droupadi Murmu said Monday.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), she said there are huge opportunities for businesses in the fast growing sports and non-leather sectors. "India is a major footwear exporter of the world, but to further boost our exports, the footwear business needs to be expanded even more," she said.
The president said the commerce and industry ministry is providing support measures to attract investments in the sector.
India's footwear exports were over $2.5 billion in FY25 and imports were $680 million.
