Due to Cyclone Ditvah, schools and colleges have been closed in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram. Warnings of heavy rain, floods and strong winds are in effect. Amid 334 deaths in Sri Lanka, India has sent 53 tonnes of relief material under Operation Sagar Bandhu.

Chennai. Incessant rains, strong winds and flood-like conditions due to Cyclone Ditvaah in Tamil Nadu have increased the problems of the people. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the next 24 hours, following which all schools and colleges have been ordered closed in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts today. The administration says that the situation may worsen, hence precaution is necessary. After warning of heavy rain, people are being appealed to stay in their homes, so that any kind of accident can be avoided. The state government and disaster management teams are continuously monitoring the situation.

Has the speed of Cyclone Ditvaha become a threat to Tamil Nadu?

Cyclone Ditvaah is continuously changing its direction and getting stronger and moving towards the maritime areas of Tamil Nadu. The Meteorological Department estimates that there may be heavy to very heavy rain in many areas in the next few hours. In view of this danger, Chennai District Collector Roshni Siddharth Jagade announced holiday in all schools and colleges at midnight. Collectors of Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram also issued this order saying that this step was extremely necessary considering the safety of children and common citizens.
