Commuters on the Chennai Metro had a tense start to Tuesday morning after a train came to an abrupt stop inside the tunnel between Central and High Court stations, reportedly due to a power failure.
The sudden halt left passengers stranded in the dark for a brief period.
Soon after the incident, Chennai Metro Rail shared an update on X.
“Service Update: Due to technical issue, metro train was halted between High Court Station and Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station. Immediate evacuation was done and train has been promptly withdrawn from the line. Normal operations have resumed at 06:20 AM. We regret the inconvenience caused,” the post read.
Metro staff helped all passengers exit the train safely and return to the platform. Normal services were restored shortly after the evacuation, and operations continued through the morning without further disruptions.
