Starting December 1st, entering an OTP will be mandatory for Tatkal ticket bookings. This was implemented with the Mumbai Central Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express. Tickets on this train will only be booked if the OTP is entered correctly.
To prevent fraud and the use of fake numbers in Tatkal ticket bookings, the Railways has made a major change. OTP has now been made mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets. This new system has been implemented starting today, starting with a select train. After this, it will gradually be implemented on all trains. Passengers will now be required to verify their real mobile number, and the primary objective of this rule is to ensure that tickets reach the right person. So, let us tell you that Tatkal tickets can now be booked only with an OTP, but which train is the first to implement this rule?
Starting today, December 1st, entering an OTP during Tatkal ticket bookings has been made mandatory. This has been started with the Mumbai Central Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express. Tickets on this train will now be booked only if the OTP sent to the registered number during booking is entered correctly. This will prevent fake numbers and illegal bookings.
This new system is not limited to online booking. It has been implemented on the IRCTC website, mobile app, computerized PRS counters, and authorized railway agents. Therefore, OTP will now be mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets through any medium.
The Railways has advised passengers to keep their mobile number updated before booking tickets. The OTP will be sent to the same number entered during booking. Once the OTP is sent, it will not be possible to change the number.
Furthermore, complaints regarding Tatkal ticket booking have been increasing recently, with brokers and agents booking large numbers of tickets at once. To prevent this fraud and ensure tickets are received by genuine travelers, the Railways has implemented an OTP-based system.
In this new OTP system, passengers enter their mobile number during booking. The system will send an OTP to the same number. Only after entering the OTP will the ticket booking proceed and be confirmed. This process is simple and will not cause any inconvenience to passengers.
This new rule has been implemented in the first phase on the Mumbai Central Shatabdi Express and will be implemented across all railway zones in the future.
