If you have a habit of frequently withdrawing money from ATMs, you need to be a little more careful. The State Bank of India has revised its rules regarding ATM transactions. Exceeding the free transaction limit will directly impact your wallet. Due to the rules implemented in February and May 2025, ATM use has become more expensive than before. So, let us explain why you should be cautious about frequent ATM withdrawals and how much the charges have increased if you have an account with SBI.

Starting February 1, 2025, SBI implemented new rules regarding the free limit and fees for ATM transactions. Following this, the same free limit applies to all customers.

With these new rules, every customer now receives five free transactions at SBI ATMs and 10 at other bank ATMs each month. This means a total of 15 free transactions per month.

If customers maintain an average bill of more than ₹1 lakh in their account, they receive unlimited free transactions at both types of ATMs.

If you withdraw money more than the free transaction limit, you will have to pay ₹15 + GST at SBI ATMs and ₹21 + GST at other bank ATMs.

There are also no fees for bank balance checks and mini statements at SBI ATMs. However, these services are charged ₹10 + GST at other bank ATMs.

Furthermore, if an ATM transaction fails due to insufficient funds in the account, SBI charges a penalty of ₹20 + GST. This rule is already in effect.

The RBI also decided to increase ATM interchange fees effective May 1, 2025. After this free limit, customers are charged ₹23 per transaction.

It is therefore advisable for customers to be mindful of their free limit and avoid frequent ATM use unless necessary. According to SBI, these changes were made to promote digital banking.
